Jim was born and raised in the Appalachian town of Ashland, Kentucky where his father worked for the U.S. government and his mother was a nurse. His parents taught him the value of hard work and dedication at an early age. These values were reinforced while selling products door-to-door for the Fuller Brush Company. By the age of 15, he was the company's leading salesperson in the state.

Jim's love for tennis led to a full scholarship at East Tennessee State University, where he became the Ohio Valley Conference champion. After earning a degree in marketing and psychology, he played on the men's pro tennis tour in Europe. Jim left the tour and began coaching the best of the best. At one point he trained seven tennis players in the world's Top 10.

During his professional coaching career, Jim became more and more aware of a semi-elusive mental state great athletes refer to as "The Zone". It is also known as the "Achiever's Mindset". This "place" is the euphoric state a peak performer feels when all the faculties of the mind and body synchronize. Fannin's clients describe the feeling as a "purposeful" calm--one that results in amazing results. Jim saw the huge potential for athletes and non-athletes alike when this mindset was "attracted."

Based on a groundbreaking study in 1974 (conducted with PhDs from the Ohio State University), Jim created the S.C.O.R.E® Performance System. It was initially designed to maximize learning in young children. With Fannin's guidance over 200,000 children and hundreds of coaches were trained in tennis using the S.C.O.R.E. System In addition, over 2000 junior high and high school students were trained in a S.C.O.R.E.® based program called Goal Reachers. Hundreds of parents requested the System for their own lives thus a cottage industry was born.

Fast-forward 34 years-over three decades of new learning and new insights. Today the S.C.O.R.E.® System has given thousands of clients a proven blueprint for realizing extraordinary human potential and overcoming the fears and worries that hold us all back. Jim has tailored S.C.O.R.E.® for amateur and professional athletes in eight sports and men and women entrepreneurs, executives, managers, administrators and sales personnel from 37 industries.
