Liz Walker
Liz Walker is an ordained minister, an award-winning television journalist, creator, executive producer and host of her own show Sunday with Liz Walker on Boston’s WBZ TV, a documentary film producer, and the co-founder of a humanitarian organization currently building a girls’ school in the village of Akon, Sudan.  Her success in a rich and multi-faceted professional career, her authority on cutting edge international issues, and her refreshing spiritual perspective have made Liz a sought-after speaker on subjects of leadership, change, risk-taking and finding purpose.   “We all have passions; interests that engage us, work that draws out the best in us. I want people to know how to tap into those passions and whether it’s on the job or at  home or on a humanitarian trip in the bush of Sudan, there is a way to use those passions to help ease the mounting pain in the world.” In the summer of 2001, Liz traveled to war-torn Sudan on a news story about the controversial slave trade in southern Sudan. She was so outraged by the human rights atrocities there, she co-founded “My Sister’s Keeper”, a grass roots organization that advocates for families in Sudan through micro-enterprise and educational initiatives, including the construction of a girls’ school in the village of Akon in the southern part of the country. Liz returns to Sudan often, most recently visiting the region of Darfur, where as many as four hundred thousand people have been killed and 2 million displaced in what is considered to be the worst humanitarian crisis in the world.   A 2005 graduate of Harvard Divinity School, Liz shot her own footage during her trips to Sudan and was honored with the Edward R. Murrow Award for her work.  She is also the recipient of the Prestigious Silver Circle and Governor’s Awards from the New England branch of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for her professional achievements and her commitment to community. In addition to her work in news, Liz has hosted and co-produced several documentaries for WBZ TV, including “Friends Like These,” for which she received recognition from the prestigious Gabriel Awards. Liz currently sits on the Board of Trustees for Andover Newton Theological Seminary, the Advisory board of the UNICEF United Nations Children’s Fund in New England and is a member of the kitchen cabinet for One Family, a non-profit organization devoted to ending family homelessness in Massachusetts.  Over the years she has served on committees and boards of the Big Sister Association, Boston’s Children’s Museum, The Urban League of Eastern Massachusetts and the Pediatric AIDS Charitable Trust of Boston.  Through witty and powerful storytelling, Liz delivers a compelling message on successful living and working in a rapidly changing world
