When Brett Outchcunis was a boy growing up in Wareham, he was picked on for his unique last name. The kids turned Outchcunis into, “Oochy-koochy,” but it was when Brett started taking dance lessons that he recalls, “That was it.” Brett was bullied.

While Brett had a loving family to support him, he realizes now that he was also sheltered and naïve. “I was confused why I was the target of teasing because I enjoyed dancing. I just wanted to be famous growing up,” he says.

The Women in Comedy tour returns to Plymouth this Saturday, April 10

By Emily Wilcox GateHouse News Service Posted Apr 08, 2010 @ 06:00 PM

They gab in the bathroom about their roots, their baggy eyes and their butts. They volley to see who can outdo the others for worst hair day ever. And if you think your breakup story corners the market for melodrama, wait until you hear hers – with all the florid details. She wins hands down to a standing ovation of high heels, lipstick and a wry appreciation of all things ridiculous.

When it comes to comedy, women are working with a lot of material.

And Loretta LaRoche ought to know. She wrote the book on it – literally.

“I don’t know how funny it is to know that you’re getting shorter,” she deadpans. “I can’t afford being shorter. I’m going to be a head with legs. I call myself a hobbit.”

Everyone needs a laugh. That is the message of veteran humorist Loretta LaRoche, especially, as she says, in this age when someone could read your e-mails at your funeral.

"When you are continuously fed negative messages about the human condition, it permeates society. People get cynical and distrustful and lose the ability to feel joyful and what is good," said LaRoche who is back to perform in the area on April 17 at 7:30 p.m. at the Academy of Music Theatre in Northampton.

Her appearance, along with comedians Kelly MacFarland, Kerri Louise and Mary Ellen Rinaldi, is being presented by Loretta LaRoche Productions and The Republican series, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.

Verbal Branding: A New Application for Selling and Unified Brand Performance By Stephen Melanson

Marketing to gain new customers is hard enough without competition on nearly every block. Unfortunately, this is typically the circumstance for bankers across Massachusetts. What’s needed in such a competitive environment is the correct branding strategy for differentiation and day-to-day application. No matter how similar banks might seem to the public, each institution has the opportunity to create their own brand that’s practical, powerful, and theirs alone. Verbal branding is redefining the foundation of brands for improved performance. Not only does verbal branding create better differentiation in the marketplace, but it can also immediately improve sales revenue, unify sales and marketing efforts, drive brand density through all communications, and improve internal cultural confidence. Without verbal branding, an organization’s branding strategy is often incomplete. Traditional branding strategies rarely account for spoken dynamics and therefore lose communications density and a front line, brand-oriented selling strategy.

condon.jpgGREENWICH, Connecticut (CNN) -- I saw President Obama laugh last week on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno." I saw the president giggle on "60 Minutes."

"You're sitting here. And you are laughing," Steve Kroft said in his interview with the president. "You are laughing about some of these problems. Are people gonna look at this and say, 'I mean, he's sitting there just making jokes about money.' How do you deal with, I mean, explain the ... mood and your laughter," Kroft asked.
